چکیده

In the conducted investigations, aluminium dross, i.e. solid waste formed in the production and recycling of aluminium, was used as one of the basic raw materials to obtain a material characterised by insulating and exothermic properties, applied to heat riser heads in the process of iron or steel casting. The product was obtained by filtrating the slurry. In the raw mix, aluminium dross played the role of a refractory filler and a source of metallic aluminium, taking part in exothermic reactions. The trials conducted in semi-technical conditions, using prototype riser head sleeves, proved their good quality and effectiveness in the metallurgical process, comparable to the currently applied imported sleeves.

Sustainable Aluminium and Iron Production

Aluminium and iron/steel are truly sustainable materials. As a result the global metallurgical industry strives to produce products, which contribute to the global effort by reducing resource use, recycling and reusing materials where possible, and to help create the economic and supply frameworks needed to do this. Aluminium is a material that is infinitely recyclable and remarkably plentiful....

Technology Development, Energy Consumption, Greenhouse Gases Emission and Environmental Pollution in Aluminium Industries

Aluminium is the world’s second most-used metal after steel and the aluminium production industry is the largest, in volume of metal produced, in non-ferrous metal industry. In this study, results of the material flows (country and global scales) related to the production and use of aluminium and energy consumption in 1980 to 2012 were separately analysed. Also, overview of the current status o...

Aluminium salt slag characterization and utilization--a review.

Aluminium salt slag (also known as aluminium salt cake), which is produced by the secondary aluminium industry, is formed during aluminium scrap/dross melting and contains 15-30% aluminium oxide, 30-55% sodium chloride, 15-30% potassium chloride, 5-7% metallic aluminium and impurities (carbides, nitrides, sulphides and phosphides). Depending on the raw mix the amount of salt slag produced per t...

The production of hydrogen as an alternative energy carrier from aluminium waste

Background: Aluminium dross is a valuable resource that is often redirected to landfill as there are no real viable solutions for the utilisation of this industrial waste. A study has been conducted to provide a recycling process where the dross is reacted with an alkaline solution in order to generate hydrogen with bayerite and gibbsite products. Methods: Samples of aluminium dross were obtain...

Arsine poisoning.

Nature of the Accident Tin is manufactured on a very large scale in Bootle. It occurs naturally as pyrites, and arsenic is an invariable contaminant. The chemical composition of the ores varies considerably but arsenic is present in a concentration of up to 3 %. The tin is liberated from its ores by heating with carbon. The arsenical impurities float to the surface of the molten tin and form a ...
